E-commerce CR benchmarks
- • Excellent: ≥ 3% (top 25%)
- • Good: 1.5% – 3% (BR average)
- • Caution: 0.5% – 1.5%
- • Critical: < 0.5%
- Electronics tend to have lower CR (high-cost, long research). Fashion and beauty have higher CR (impulse).
Typical bottlenecks and how to tackle them
- Visit → Cart: improve PDP (photos, description, social proof).
- Cart → Checkout: show shipping cost upfront, reduce friction.
- Checkout → Purchase: simplify form, offer installments and local payment methods.
- Completed purchase: ensure immediate confirmation + email.
How it works
How to calculate funnel conversion rate
Conversion rate is the number of orders divided by the number of visits, times 100. But this calculator goes further: it breaks the funnel into stages (visits, cart, checkout and purchase) and measures the conversion of each step. The rate per stage is the total that moved forward divided by the total that entered that phase.
With 10,000 visits, 2,000 carts, 800 checkouts and 400 purchases, overall conversion is 4% (400 ÷ 10,000). By stage: 20% from visit to cart, 40% from cart to checkout and 50% from checkout to purchase. The biggest leak is the first stage, where 8,000 people leave without even adding a product.
For online retail, an overall conversion between 1% and 3% is common; above 3% tends to be healthy. Look at the worst-performing stage: a sharp drop at checkout points to high shipping or few payment options, while loss at the cart suggests weak pricing or social proof. Fixing the right bottleneck pays off more than touching the whole funnel.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
- What is conversion rate?
- Conversion rate is the percentage of visitors who complete a desired action, such as a purchase. The formula is: conversion rate = (conversions ÷ visitors) × 100. In e-commerce it typically lands between 1% and 3%, but it varies widely by niche and channel.
- How do I calculate conversion rate per funnel stage?
- Divide those who advanced by the count of the previous stage and multiply by 100. This calculator does it across the whole funnel (visits → cart → checkout → purchase), showing each stage's rate and where you lose the most customers. Free in your browser, no signup.
- What's the difference between overall and per-stage conversion rate?
- Overall rate measures start to finish (visits → purchase), while per-stage rate measures each step in isolation (e.g. cart → checkout). Per-stage analysis reveals the exact funnel bottleneck that the overall rate hides, which this tool flags automatically.
- How do I find out where I'm losing customers in the funnel?
- Compare each stage's conversion rate: the lowest percentage is your bottleneck. The calculator highlights that critical point across the visits → cart → checkout → purchase funnel, so you can prioritize fixing the stage that drops the most revenue.
- Is the conversion rate calculator free?
- Yes, it's 100% free and runs right in your browser with no signup. You enter the numbers for each funnel stage and instantly get the per-stage rate, the identified bottleneck, and a revenue projection for whatever visit volume you choose.
