How it works

How to calculate Share of Voice

The calculator adds up every mention of your brand and of each competitor to reveal which slice of the conversation belongs to each one. The formula is simple: %SOV = your brand's mentions divided by the total mentions of all players, multiplied by 100. Each brand gets a percentage, and together they add up to 100%.

Example: you got 120 mentions in the month, competitor A got 200 and B got 80. The total is 400. Your Share of Voice is 120 ÷ 400 × 100 = 30%. The tool shows that 30%, builds the ranking (A in 1st with 50%, you in 2nd, B in 3rd) and draws the visual stacked bar so you can compare at a glance.

Tip for Brazilian e-commerce: use the same time window and the same search terms for every brand, otherwise the comparison gets distorted. An SOV below your actual market share usually signals you need to invest more in content and media to be remembered as much as you sell.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Share of Voice (SOV)?

Share of Voice is your brand's share of mentions relative to the whole market: %SOV = your mentions ÷ (your mentions + competitors' mentions) × 100. It measures how much you dominate the conversation in your niche on social media.

How do I calculate Share of Voice?

The formula is %SOV = your brand's mentions ÷ total mentions (yours + all competitors') × 100. In the calculator you enter how many mentions each player has and it instantly shows your %SOV, your ranking and a visual stacked bar.

Is the Share of Voice calculator free?

Yes, it's 100% free and runs right in your browser with no signup. You enter your mentions and your competitors' mentions and see your %SOV, ranking position and a comparative stacked bar on the same screen.

What's the difference between Share of Voice and market share?

Share of Voice measures your slice of mentions and visibility in the conversation (attention), while market share measures your slice of actual sales or revenue (money). SOV is often a leading indicator of future market share gains.

How do I use Share of Voice in my strategy?

Compare your %SOV against competitors to justify content investment and measure real competitiveness: if your SOV is below your market share, there's room to gain presence. Track it over time to validate campaigns.
