For ordinary retail you stay in the left-hand panel — but that is already much more than reading only the organic feed. Creative frequency, duration, platform mix and message variation tell you what the competitor is testing.
3 questions the Ad Library answers
- Did the competitor go into a campaign without posting? If they have 12 active ads and the organic feed is silent, they decided to run paid-only — usually to test creatives or clear stock without drawing public attention.
- Which mechanic are they pushing today? Coupon? Free shipping? Combo? The ad copy tells you, and the Ad Library shows all the variations live — not just the creative the feed algorithm served you.
- How long does the creative survive? An ad that stays 15+ days live = it is converting. An ad that leaves in 3 days = the test failed. That signal is free and they have no way to hide it.
How to find the Page ID (the step that trips everyone up)

Step 1
Open the competitor’s Page on Facebook
No need to be logged in. It works on desktop or mobile.
Step 2
Go to “About” → scroll to “Page Transparency”
On mobile, tap the three dots in the header and look for “About this Page”.
Step 3
Copy the number shown under “Page ID”
Typical format: 15 to 20 digits. E.g.: 113499698688041 (Americanas).
Step 4
Go to facebook.com/ads/library/?id=<your-id>
Or paste the ID into the search field of the official Ad Library.
What NOT to expect from the Ad Library
Minimal usage routine (10 min/week)
- List 5 to 10 direct competitors with their Page IDs.
- Every Monday, scan the new creatives from the previous week.
- Note: mechanic (coupon, shipping, combo), duration, dominant platform.
- Compare with your week: did you react? Do you need to react? Or is it noise?
- Archive the screenshots — in 6 months you will have a history they don’t have.
